How to Wrap Chinese Pen
How to Prepare the Broad-Brush
Choose the material of the cloth
Woolen cloth. It is most suitable to be used, as it can absorb ink easily, and wonderfully show the beautiful and graceful brush trace on the traditional Chinese Xuan Paper.
Chemical fiber cloth. It is also suitable to be used for the brush. Do not use cotton cloth. Though it can absorb ink, yet the ink will stay in the cloth and not come out smoothly, thus the brush trace will be uneven and ugly.
By the way, if you use new cloth to wrap the brush, you should wash it to make it clean without remaining glue on it. Make it dry not in the sun for later use. By so doing, the cloth will absorb and store ink better.
Fasten the cloth
Fasten the cloth at 2 cm from the bottom of the brush. If it is too high, the ink will make your fingers dirty. If you fasten the cloth too low, there will be not enough ink for your brush. It is better to use cotton thread or silk thread to fasten the cloth.
Spread the cloth on your left palm, take the brush with your right hand. Put the brush in the center of the cloth and turn the far end of the cloth over so as to make the brush in between the lower cover and the upper cover of the cloth.
Put the face-side of the brush upperward. Turn the cloth from the left side of the brush to make it as a thirty-degree triangle. Then tighten the cloth rightward. After that, turn the cloth leftward and make it also a thirty-degree triangle.
Tie the cloth tightly with the thread onto the brush.
Tips
Tie the cloth at 0.5 cm-1cm from the bottom of the brush.
Before writing, wet the cloth on the brush with water. Absorb too much water with tissue paper. Then put it into ink. Try the brush on waste paper before you actually write.
